a day off

The Team took a day off of training today to do a few more important things. First was a fitness and nutrition clinic held by a couple of my ex-teammates, Amie and Josh. We tend to focus on the cycling part of this, but it's proper nutrition, stretching and balanced exercise that we'll need to get to the finish. At mile 80 your legs may still have juice, but if the rest of your body isn't in agreement you won't be going anywhere...

Welcome to the tools of the trade. Without all these powders, gels and bars it's near impossible to keep your body going for as long as we'll need. Learning how to use all this is an education in itself. Plus, it's not cheap...Big Thanks to Amie for getting all this donated to the team. It will allow new athletes the chance to try out different options to see what works for them, BEFORE spending the bucks!

Next we walked as a team to Connection to the Cause. Held at PS191 on the west side, it was an opportunity to meet many of the Honored Teammates for this season - folks who are battling the cancers we are raising funds to combat. Sometimes you need a reminder of why you committed yourself to this in the first place. (sorry for the crappy photo...)

Finally, barring bad weather next Saturday will be our first on-the-road training day!
